Dear Alison & Nathaniel, I was best friends with your husband/father during our elementary school days at Angell School, in Ann Arbor, where Rusty had his first audition landing and playing the lead in Oliver (I think) as a fourth grader. I was part of the John Zweifler, Joshua & Jessica Mitchell & J.P. Reynolds crowd. Rusty and I and crew had many joyous days of play at The Magee, Hill Street mansion as 4th, 5th, and 6th graders... playing hide & seek (inside the house) riding a vespa motorcycle around the property and Rusty crashing it into a tree and creating other mayhem for Bettie to try to control. In 1967, I relocated to Wellesley, MA and one summer during Rusty's Exeter year's he came to my house and we hitch-hiked to Exeter, N.H. My last conversation with Rusty was after the Mark-Linn Baker/Arsenio Hall televison show. Rusty's zest for life was unyielding, his creativity genius... as Steve Olsen said-paraphrasing- I think Rusty kept all of his friends from childhood- I am one of those friends. Rusty may your spirit asend to the heavens to be with the rest of the profits, martyr's and saints. Love, Ray

I only worked with Rusty once - when I produced the cast album of The Irish and How They Got That Way - he was a total delight and as talented as they get. Dear Alison, know that he is probably making beautiful music wherever his soul is resting.

Allison- I met Rusty when I was an Eaglebrook student in 1983 and he came to share tunes from the Black Sox musical. Since we both were Detroit Tiger fans, we immediately hit it off. I remember seeing you perform in Romance/Romance, Drood and Up Against It when I lived in New York and upon meeting Rusty back at Eaglebrook some years later, was pleasantly shocked to hear that you guys had married. I had always been a fan of both of yours. Anyway, I caught Rusty's act from time to time and loved seeing him up here in Deerfield.
I am writing a musical for the spring play which the kids will perform... it is based on small cabarets like the West Bank and Duplex, etc... I shall dedicate it to Rusty of course as he has not only been an inspiration to me but to all of Eaglebrook as well.

Alison and Family
I was a classmate of Rusty's at Exeter and we were casual acquaintances. When I did see him in New York he always made me feel like a good friend. He had such a warm, welcoming quality that made him a very special person. I send my deepest condolences to you. His vital energy is a huge loss.
Sincerely
Henry Wright

Dear Alison,
I moved to L.A. in the 90's and hadn't seen Rusty perform since, oh probably, 1989. I think it is a true testament to his talent just how clearly I remember him. He seemed to nearly levitate off his seat as he played, the joy was just too great. And to say it was infectious is to understate. He nearly chomped the microphone and he made me laugh. Hard. Thank you for sharing him with us.
I, myself, am fighting the big "C" right now, and even though I wouldn't begin to compare my struggle with what you are going through at this moment, please know that when I say I have trememdous empathy for your plight and that of your son's, I mean it in the deepest sense. I suspect you are feeling a tiny morsel of peace now, too, at least that is my greatest wish for you.
I am thinking of you in this tragic time, and my daily rants with God will most definitely include you. I hope to see you again sometime, in calmer days.
You are in my heart,
Robin
